Is it time for the Legislature to end this "sanctuary city" nonsense in Washington State?

Gotta wonder.

In our state, as near as I can tell; Seattle, King County and the city of Spokane are sanctuary cities.

I'm over it.

And yes, the slaughter of innocents goes on around the country: including here in Othello.

Family members suspect jealousy may have led to the gruesome slayings of an Othello teen and her 3-year-old son found shot and severely burned in a remote part of Franklin County.

Maria G. Cruiz-Calvillo, 18, and Luis F. Lopez-Cruz were identified Monday as the bodies found last week inside a vehicle that was set on fire in a ravine near the intersection of Scootney and Ridge roads.

Luis likely was still alive when the car went up in flames, according to Dan Blasdel, Franklin County coroner.

Luis would have turned four years old on Thursday.

“She was a really good person. She was always smiling,” said Karen Rodriguez, a sister-in-law of Cruiz-Calvillo who spoke for the family. “He was a happy kid. He was really playful and loved to be outside.”

Prudencio Juan Fragos-Ramirez, 25, of Connell, reportedly had recently started dating Cruiz-Calvillo and is suspected of killing the pair.

Fragos-Ramirez was arrested hours into the investigation at his home less than a mile from where the bodies were found. He appeared Monday in Franklin County Superior Court, where Judge Carrie Runge set bail at $1 million.

I believe it's time for the legislature to act to end this stupidity.

The way to act is to use the lever of funding.  The questionable legality of city ordinances trumping state laws aside, the way to make this happen is to stop providing state funding for anything in sanctuary cities.

That's not the only steps that can be taken, of course: getting rid of the cancer of the state level Dream Act, put into place by the GOP Senate last year, is another step.

The idea that illegal aliens who are not even supposed to be here by law getting in-state tuition that American citizens can't get and then taking up slots that American citizens can't get is absurd on it's face.

We can also end the stupidity of illegal aliens getting licenses by requiring proof of citizenship to get one.

There are, in fact, a wide number of things that can be done to help end this scourge and save some lives, including requiring all police agencies to cooperate fully with ICE on the matter of detention/deportation of illegal aliens.

The GOP generally, however and the GOP Senate particularly has shown themselves to be weak willed and afraid of being called names.

So, instead of standing up for the Americans here, they take steps to screw us and screw our children by allowing illegals to get in line and in many cases, get to the front of the line by allowing state universities to block out numbers of slots for foreign students/illegal aliens ONLY.

Well, it's time to put an end to this crap.

Because, right now, I'm wondering how any of these legislators would be feeling if it had been their child slaughtered on that walkway or dock or whatever it was... or if their child had been killed or assaulted or raped by a sanctuary city illegal alien in King County... or Seattle... or Spokane.
