The scariest part of this whole article is that a wealthy person like Madore is able to spend over $300,000 to finance his own campaign. How is a regular citizen who wants to run office supposed to be able to overcome that challenge? The typical Clark County resident doesn't have anywhere close to that amount of money to spend and they won't stand a chance against a wealthy person that basically buys his or her seat. The US Supreme Court has ruled that it would be ok for someone like Madore to basically buy the whole board of commissioners if he want to fund everyone's campaign. This is not democracy and we all suffer from the result. I'm sure that the Madore apologists think that it's fine for him to do this, but what if an uber-liberal dropped $5 million to change the make up of the county board? Totally legal under current law. And totally scary as well.
