Look, we get that you want to slam 65,000 commuters with a $1300 fee every year for going to work, a potentially stunning blow to low income workers and hundreds of single moms; we get that you're a lame duck commissioner.... we get that.
But instead of "fielding a few calls," why wasn't county government prepared for this bizarre turn of events concerning measures 66 and 67?
Why didn't we have a plan in place; a plan to execute to actively go across the river and RECRUIT businesses? In short, Stuart: why aren't you being PRO-ACTIVE instead of REACTIVE?
A few days before the ballots were counted, Phil Nike made it clear that he is very unhappy. How much more of a clue did you need? Or weren't you paying attention?
I realize vision like that is outside your particular box, as are most items in government that actually respond to the needs of the people.
But "fielding calls" simply isn't good enough. And if you had a clue, you also would have had a business recruitment team in place and ready to go, to begin the process of doing to Oregon what they've been doing to us for decades.
I can't WAIT until the next election.

The Administration of Hypocrite Obama.

Look, I knew when this guy was running that he was the political version of the Platte River: a mile wide and an inch deep. No experience, no vision, no clue. The politically naive that bought into this community organizing casket salesman's shtick seem to be coming to terms with the fact that he has no idea what he's doing.
In our leaders, not having a clue isn't a particularly recent phenomena. Knowing AHEAD of time that they won't have a clue, and electing them ANYWAY? THAT is just bizarre. And now, generations will suffer because of the gullible voters who put this clown into office.
And while we can forgive stupid.... maybe... we cannot forgive lies and hypocrisy.
We are, unfortunately, stuck with a leader who is a liar. He has lied about almost every aspect of his campaign, and all the videos/newspaper articles prove it.
Now, it's easy to say that, well, he was young, he didn't know the realities that would confront him. But to me, that's just a subset of electing a clueless idiot to, perhaps, the most important job on the face of the planet.
The left's hypocrisy, a given in the best of times, is a stench of mythic proportions. Except for a few anarchist/far left socialists, none of these clowns are applying the same criteria to ol' Hopey Changey as they did to Mr. Bush.
I can understand that, to a certain extent. If these people were to hold Obama accountable to the same extent they held Bush, why.... their heads would explode.
Well, I do.
The results?
Books will be written about this man's lies and manipulation of people. Again, it's not that politicians don't lie... or manipulate.... many, if not most, do. But this man's lies and manipulations are so blatant and so obvious. His tin ear should get it's own monument on the Maqll in Washington DC. He will be single handedly responsible for the upcoming decimation of the democrats... because, for God's sake, if the American people haven't learned their lesson by now... we never will.
His most recent hypocritical idiocy?
A 3 year spending freeze.
REALLY? You REALLY want a THREE YEAR SPENDING FREEZE?
Why, Mr. President. That's right up there with no tax increases on the middle class... or not signing budgets with earmarks and/or pork.
Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice?
That's the same kind of spending freeze you campaigned AGAINST, right Mr. President?
And during the campaign, you never shut UP abut "no-bid contacts," did you?
Then how come you're doing them?
And the unfathomable idiocy of giving terrorists Miranda Warnings and putting them on trial in civil courts?
Why, you'd never do anything like THAT, would you? You COULDN'T be THAT much of a blithering moron.... could you?
Well, yes. You could. And since you KNOW how stupid an idea that is... we can't find ANYONE who will take responsibility for that decision... so guess what?
The buck stops with you.
Like I said, Mr. President. We can forgive stupid. But we cannot and will not forgive deliberate lies and deception. And that's YOU.
The next general election and the 2012 CANNOT get here fast enough.

A prime example of why I write with rage: Jobs "saved or created" in congressional districts that don't exist.

As a people, we should not require a filter that will enable us to determine when the empty suit is lying and when he and his henchmen are telling the truth.
However, since almost every domestic policy our ACORN-in-Chief has attempted to implement of any size, from the Porkulus through cap and swindle to this utterly moronic plan to give terrorist scum the largest stage on earth in New York... all have been rife with lies, miscalculations and utter incompetence.
Beating them all, however, is the pathetic effort to get us to believe that the economy, so artfully talked down by the empty suited, anti-American racist bigot occupying the White House during his "No Lie I Won't Tell If You Suckers Will Buy It" campaign is now, magically, recovering... all due to the messiah's OWN efforts, you see... thus the recovery.gov campaign website.
And this is where the rage starts. The story speaks for itself, but it does represent the primary reason why I always "mute" the TV or radio whenever the Liar-in-Chief or any of his minions are speaking. What's the point? Their lips are moving, therefore they lie.

Human Error Blamed for Crediting New Stimulus Jobs to Nonexistent Places
Here's a stimulus success story: In Arizona's 15th congressional district, 30 jobs have been saved or created with just $761,420 in federal stimulus spending. At least that's what the Web site set up by the Obama administration to track the $787 billion stimulus says.
There's one problem, though: There is no 15th congressional district in Arizona; the state has only eight districts.
And ABC News has found many more entries for projects like this in places that are incorrectly identified.
Late Monday, officials with the Recovery Board created to track the stimulus spending, said the mistakes in crediting nonexistent congressional districts were caused by human error.
"We report what the recipients submit to us," said Ed Pound, Communications Director for the Board.
Pound told ABC News the board receives declarations from the recipients - state governments, federal agencies and universities - of stimulus money about what program is being funded.
"Some recipients clearly don't know what congressional district they live in, so they appear to be just throwing in any number. We expected all along that recipients would make mistakes on their congressional districts, on jobs numbers, on award amounts, and so on. Human beings make mistakes," Pound said.
The issue has raised hackles on Capitol Hill.
Rep. David Obey, D-Wisc, who chairs the powerful House appropriations Committee, issued a paper statement demanding that the recovery.gov Web site be updated.
"The inaccuracies on recovery.gov that have come to light are outrageous and the Administration owes itself, the Congress, and every American a commitment to work night and day to correct the ludicrous mistakes."

ABC News was able to locate several examples on the government's Web site outlining hundreds of millions of dollars spent and jobs created in Congressional districts that have been misidentified.

So, Obama is finally getting it? "Long-Term Debt Load 'Unsustainable?'"

Well, duhhhh.
Even your lowly blogger here knew that.
Our president's ability to print money has only been limited by an inability to either cut down trees or produce ink fast enough, and only now is he getting worried about "sustainability?"
The Congressional Budget Office warned Obama before he engaged in his reckless, incompetent handling of our economy, putting us in trillions of dollars of debt, debt that our children won't be able to pay off.
His handling of the economy has been a disaster. He's been warned along the way that it's been a disaster. He, personally, bears much of the responsibility for talking down our economy in such a way that it enabled him to scam Congress into voting for a bill that no one had even read... all in the name of his non-existent "transparency," of course.
The time for the President to have considered this increasingly likely outcome was BEFORE he pulled out his shovel and started tossing fiscal dirt on us and our future.
That we are at risk is unquestionable. That our President's incompetent handling of this crisis is, in large part, responsible for this situation is equally difficult to question.

May 14 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama, calling current deficit spending “unsustainable,” warned of skyrocketing interest rates for consumers if the U.S. continues to finance government by borrowing from other countries.
“We can’t keep on just borrowing from China,” Obama said at a town-hall meeting in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, outside Albuquerque. “We have to pay interest on that debt, and that means we are mortgaging our children’s future with more and more debt.”
Holders of U.S. debt will eventually “get tired” of buying it, causing interest rates on everything from auto loans to home mortgages to increase, Obama said. “It will have a dampening effect on our economy.”
Earlier this week, the Obama administration revised its own budget estimates and raised the projected deficit for this year to a record $1.84 trillion, up 5 percent from the February estimate. The revision for the 2010 fiscal year estimated the deficit at $1.26 trillion, up 7.4 percent from the February figure. The White House Office of Management and Budget also projected next year’s budget will end up at $3.59 trillion, compared with the $3.55 trillion it estimated previously.
Two weeks ago, the president proposed $17 billion in budget cuts, with plans to eliminate or reduce 121 federal programs. Republicans ridiculed the amount, saying that it represented one-half of 1 percent of the entire budget. They noted that Obama is seeking an $81 billion increase in other spending.

The Seattle Times asks the rhetorical question: Does (the) convention center really need to grow again? To that, I answer "no, it doesn't."
Clearly, those in a position to ask such a moronic question are incapable of grasping how bad our economy is.
They only want a paltry $766 Million to expand this. The center HAS been expanded... AND ATTENDANCE IS BELOW THE NUMBER BEFORE THE EXPANSION, a neat factoid that shows that the LAST expansion, let alone a new expansion, would be the same type of colossal waste of money Vancouver is attempting to engage in with the utter and humongous waste of money known as the I-5 Bridge replacement/Loot Rail project.
The parallels are striking in that both projects are a colossal waste of money, in an economy that cannot afford vaporizing hundreds of millions of dollars for someone else's vision that the people do not share; and when completed, neither project will make any difference, except in removing $5 billion or so from our pockets.
Expanding the convention center is a moronic idea not unlike believing the world is flat, and this thing should be killed, along with the careers of everyone supporting it.

There are plans for another expansion of the Washington State Convention & Trade Center, but the center's track record and the struggles of convention centers elsewhere raise concerns about the wisdom of the proposal.
Never mind the lousy economy. Backers of Seattle's convention center say the time is right for a $766 million expansion to lure more free-spending conventioneers downtown.
Despite the state's $5 billion deficit, they're asking the Legislature to give a quick go-ahead to the project, which would double the exhibit space at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center (WSCTC). A coalition of downtown business interests and Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels are solidly behind the idea.
At first glance, their case seems compelling. Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates the city has lost $1.7 billion in potential visitor spending since 2004 because the convention center was booked or too small.
And the expansion would be paid for entirely out of an existing tax on hotel rooms in King County — money already dedicated to the center — so it wouldn't add to the state's budget worries.
But the convention center's track record — and the struggles of convention centers elsewhere — raises questions about the wisdom of expansion. Consider:
