The above image, taken by Reuters photographer Eric Gaillard, shows the body of one of the victims of the Nice terror attack.
On Thursday night, as citizens gathered on the Promenade des Anglais for Bastille Day celebrations, an armed man drove a hired lorry into the crowd, killing at least 84 people. Ten of the victims are thought to have been children.
Mr Gaillard's photo has been widely shared on social media, drawing a great deal of commentary. While the identity of the victim in the picture is unknown, the presence of the doll led many to believe it was a child's body.
No ideology … could be more valuable than the life of this child,” wrote @06Black_Eagle.
"Here is a small girl with a doll. Tonight in Nice. The innocent are always the first victims,” added @PsychoMoqueuse.
