When Ted Cruz gets stupid:

When I see crap like this from any candidate about the followers of any OTHER candidate... particularly an experienced pol like Cruz, who should absolutely know better; that serves to reinforce my conclusion that Cruz simply lacks the intelligence that a president SHOULD have.

Don't misunderstand me: I'm well aware of his intellect.  But academic smarts doesn't always translate to common sense... and in this situation, he blew it.

Here's the thing:

Cruz may be absolutely right about Trump voters.

But what's served by Cruz saying this?

Is Trump saying this sort of thing about Cruz supporters?

Doesn't Cruz realize that for him, Cruz, to win, he's going to NEED Trump voters?

Everybody votes for everyone for different reasons.  I am much more inclined to vote for a Trump when someone like Cruz effectively tells those who would or have that we're stupid.  And in summation of his positions, effectively, Cruz is telling those who might, do or have supported Trump that they're ignorant morons.

What does he gain by saying that?  Is that kind of verbiage supposed to result in a massive realization on the part of Trump supporters that THEY are all wrong and Cruz is 100% right, resulting in some massive crossover to some other candidate?

Or is it the action... the words... of an exhausted candidate who simply didn't know what he was saying or how badly that shot would reverberate through the political spectrum... tinged with a touch of desperation?

Either way, it was a moronic, idiotic thing to say and in the end, crap like this is going to cost Cruz.

Say whatever you want about the candidate.  But to attack his supporters for being, effectively, stupid when you are going to NEED them to win in the general?

Sheesh.
