We have already wasted $100,000,000 or more on replacing a bridge we don't need or want. We can't afford it, the Fed can't afford it, and it WILL cost hundreds of millions... billions.... more then they promise it will.
But neither Gregoire nor Kulongoski have the testicles to kill this deal. They would rather screw all of us here then do what needs to be done... particularly when their union buds get a huge payoff.
Christie, governor of New Jersey, doesn't have the problem. This story tells it all, and explains what true leadership in goverment really looks like.

Thursday, October 07, 2010, 1:48 PMTRENTON — Two senior officials say Gov. Chris Christie today will kill the controversial $8.7 billion Hudson River rail tunnel project, which he says the state cannot afford to build.
According to the sources, the governor plans to announce other transportation initiatives that would allow New Jersey to keep the $3 billion in federal money already earmarked for the tunnel project, rather than return it.
The governor has scheduled a 1:30 p.m. press conference.
Christie put a freeze on the project last month after federal officials said escalating costs could mean more than $1 billion in overruns, leading to increasing speculation that the governor would pull the plug.
The tunnel, the largest public works project in the U.S., was to double train capacity between New Jersey and midtown Manhattan when it was completed by the end of 2018.
If only Gregoire would stop pouring tens of millions down a rat hole like this.

Never thought I'd say this but New Jersey is looking pretty good to me. I have high hopes Christie is gonna do things right.
