Who is "Mr. X?" Rumor has it that a self-funder is looking hard at the 3CD race.

.
Back in the 08 cycle, a fellow by the name of Martin Hash briefly ran against Sen. Don Benton (R-17) as a self-funded candidate. Hash made a pile off of animation technologies in the Hollywood realm, and he wrote a hefty check or two... but then dropped out of the race in favor of David Carrier.

Some are hesitating to enter the wide-open 3rd CD race due to the presence of an unnamed "Mr. X," an individual who is looking at doing this thing and who apparently brings enough money to the table to write a check to get it done, not unlike the legendary Tim "I'm runnin' to FIX Congress" Moyer (Who went thru 1.25 mil of his own money in the primary before tax evasion issues caused him to withdraw) back in 94 have we seen the like here locally.

Self-funding in and of itself doesn't guarantee victory. But it typically does provide a huge advantage in an open seat situation like this when it comes to the infrastructure of a campaign in everything from media to consultants.

When I find out who this guy is (and I will) I'll let you all know.
