I've already done a few hundred words on the knee-jerk idiocy of the fringe leftists running the senate and their "can't help themselves" inability to avoid jacking up our taxes in the midst of a horrific recession.
Never mind that under our laws, such a tax is inherently illegal. Never mind that the amount of money raised would be about the same as the morons would suck out of our local wallets for the tolls on the idiotic bridge replacement... or, around $100,000,000 a year.
The only one interviewed showing any sense so far isn't even IN the Senate. She's House Majority Leader Lynn Kessler from Hoquiam:
In politics, the catch phrase has typically been "The House proposes, the Senate disposes.""I'm concerned about people who have to run for re-election in 2010 and having a
big tax increase as one of their votes out of here," she said. "I maintain that
if you don't have the majority, you don't have much. As the Republicans can tell
you right now."
Here, the reverse is true.
One of the more highly placed democrat morons is former party chair Paul Berendt, who seems to forget that in this case, his position:
If the Legislature takes action, "people will be coming out of the woodwork whoIs also true for the opposite: If the Legislature takes action, "people will be coming out of the woodwork who you've never seen before to oppose such a thing."
you've never seen before to support such a thing," he said. "I don't think it's
suicide."
It would be a bloodbath. And with the other left coast states with income tax structures standing there as examples of slow-motion train wrecks, the ONLY reason to attempt to start an income tax is the class warfare angle.
The people will be rightfully told that the whole point of the exercise is to get the income tax framework into place... and then drop the floor down to zero since the entire point of this sorry, sordid exercise is to increase government's ability to vacuum MORE money out of our pockets.
It's not that this isn't just a scam (it is) but it's such a poorly thought out, underhanded scam. And it's brought to you by the fringe leftist urban whack jobs running the senate.
Enjoy.

Obstacles challenge proposals to create an income-tax on the wealthy
Senate Democrats are toying with putting an income tax on the ballot, knowing it likely would end up in the state Supreme Court if voters approved the measure.
Seattle Times Olympia bureau
OLYMPIA — Senate Democrats are toying with putting an income tax on the ballot, knowing such a levy likely would end up in the state Supreme Court if voters approved the measure.
Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown, D-Spokane, said no decision has been made, but she's looking at "an income tax on very high-income individuals: millionaires or half-millionaires. And that would mean that 19 out of 20 people in Washington state would not be affected at all."
The move would be politically risky for Democrats, who control both the state House and Senate. Voters have rejected income-tax proposals several times, most recently in 1973. That proposal failed by a 3-to-1 ratio.
Talk of an income tax has emerged as the Legislature looks for ways to cut nearly $4 billion in spending to balance the state's next two-year budget. Both the state House and Senate have proposed deep spending reductions, but Democrats also are considering putting a tax increase on the ballot to mitigate some of the cuts.
Brown said she didn't expect an income tax on the wealthy to help with current budget problems, but it would provide a new revenue stream in the future. She said she doesn't envision it as a replacement for current taxes.
