How can you tell the morons running the editorial page of the Pravda Columbian are lying about the I-5 Bridge replacement and loot rail?
They print something.
Every article is a lie. Every editorial, foaming at the mouth in support of this criminal waste of money. Every mention. Every quote in support. All of them.
No, the actual words are not lies, usually. The words are uttered, dutifully; recorded, dutifully; and printed, dutifully.
So where's the lie?
The lie is in the fact that each article, meeting, and comment is presented as if there is not massive opposition to this colossal blunder on the largest magnitude of the history of the Northwestern United States. They rarely, if ever, even mention the remote possibility that this project is not wanted or needed. They have even gone so far as to print about lying polls in an effort to sway the uninformed.
The lie is in the fact that this despicable rag will do all it can to silence the people on this matter, much like they have done all they can to belittle and ignore the seething and silenced opposition to this garbage.
In this instance, the biggest lie is a sub part of their headline, where they don't even MENTION loot rail:

Secondly, what they again lack the guts and integrity to tell us is that THE great original purpose is TO BRING IN LIGHT RAIL.
In short, "The Best Bridge" IS THE ONE WE ALREADY HAVE.
Further, this rag's nonsensical whining about people across the river who don't share their vision is just that, whining. As I've already pointed out, the ONLY motivation for this nonsensical crap is loot rail. If the other side of the river were to demand that this 6 lane bridge be reduced to ONE lane, the morons and idiots running this show would be OK with that, as long as it included loot rail.
But the bridge we already have cannot be reconfigured for loot rail... so it must go. And to attempt to con the people, they will make up lie after lie about the bridge we have in an effort to continue to scam us into believing that we need THIS bridge replaced... when their ONLY incentive is to find a way to get loot rail into Vancouver... no matter how much it costs... and no matter how many people are hurt in the process.
The governments supporting this debacle... the governments too cowardly to demand that we be allowed to vote on this unconscionable waste of time, money and effort... the governments so arrogant that they believe themselves somehow beyond asking us if we want this multi-billion dollar waste of money... as well as the Nazi-propaganda-like newspaper supporting this effort would be considered "despicable," except despicable doesn't even begin to cover it.
This unspeakable abuse of the people of Clark County must end. Hopefully, it will end with their overwhelming defeat of these clowns at the polls BEFORE they damage us any further than the $90 million plus they've already wasted on this nonsense.
Hopefully, it will end with the destruction and bankruptcy of the Columbian, a newspaper that has long since lost it's way and violated it's sacred trust.
What goes around, comes around. And for too long, this paper has served as the soap box for those who would rape this community in the name of their superior vision. For that, this paper should suffer the ultimate penalty of going out of business.
For most of us... they will not be missed.

Based on the comments of a few public officials across the river, it almost seems as if they’re afraid a new Interstate 5 Bridge might be too successful.
Their warped logic goes something like this: If a new bridge is too successful and doesn’t have a certain amount of aggravating congestion and traffic dangers, then vehicles will move too rapidly. And if motorists become too content, then the local quality of life will rise, and that will encourage growth and worsen the current sprawl problems, particularly in north Clark County.
What an absurd outlook. But that’s the only way to interpret comments made by some members of the Portland City Council and Metro Council, most recently at a Monday meeting among bridge-design officials, planners, politicians and bureaucrats.
These few hand-wringing Oregonians should remember what we’ll call the Great Original Purpose of this whole, long-overdue bridge replacement project: reduce congestion and increase safety at the I-5 choke point on the Columbia River. If the tourniquet-tighteners are afraid a new bridge might be too accommodating, then they should have the courage to embrace and promote the “no build” option. Indeed, doing nothing would be a great way to keep bridge traffic from moving too swiftly and put a clamp on the motoring public’s wanderlust.
