Sources that I trust tell me the Columbian has silenced another community voice: The Vancouver Voice.

Yeah, it seems they flexed their checkbook and bought them out.... to shut them down.

Odd that a bankrupt newspaper has the money laying around to do something like that.

Again, just sayin'.

A tale of two hospitals: Legacy Salmon Creek sucks.

Last night, a friend of ours staying here with us was injured when, while walking down the hall, her right thumbnail was caught by a doorknob and almost ripped completely off.

Think about that for a moment.

Blood... and the pain... I can't imagine.

So, we bundle her up and take her to this spiffy newish hospital in this neck of the woods, Legacy over in Salmon Creek.

There's the obligatory long wait... an hour plus.

The pain, you understand, is excruciating.  And it's not getting any less so.

Finally, the doctor sees her... a male doctor, of course.

And his exam?

Is that a fake nail?  We have to get the fake nail off to get to the real nail.

Our friend:  Well, just cut them both off at the same time.

Doctor: Well, it's going to fall off eventually, so there's nothing I can do.

And he's gone.

It's still bleeding, you understand.

Our friend:  Can't you at least give me something for the pain?

Nurse: he didn't say anything.... let me go check.

Nurse comes back: Here's a couple of Tylenol.

Unbelievable.

Our friend continues to bleed, continues to be experiencing an agony that's hard to describe (after all, there's a reason that ripping off fingernails is a form of torture in interrogations) and these utterly clueless idiots do precisely dick for her.

And that's where SW Washington on Mill Plain comes in.

I'm a layman, I admit it.  But a blind man could see in a minute that our friend needed both treatment and pain management.  It's not like she ripped off her own thumb nail to get some vicodin.

So, we make the decision to go down to SW.

We roll into the hospital emergency room... its around 1 a.m.  I tell her to request a female doctor, because it's fairly obvious that empathy for this sort of thing is in short supply at Legacy among the male doctors.

The woman doctor that treated her took one look and knew what she had to do.

She injected a lidocaine blocker, cut the nail off, put a few stitches in, wrote her some script for pain meds, and we were done in 2 hours.

So, how is it that the doctor at Legacy was such a moron, but the doctor at Southwest knew what to do?

I can't tell you.  But what I can tell you is that I would dive into a vat of boiling hydrochloric acid before I'd ever go to Legacy for anything.

Just sayin'.

More CRC/Loot Rail idiocy: Loot rail would DOUBLE transit travel times between Portland and Vantucky.

So, we're gonna spend $10 billion for THIS?

Good.

God.
Light rail across the Columbia River would double transit travel times between Portland and Vancouver
In a new research study, Tom Rubin compares the current transit travel times across the Columbia River Crossing (CRC) in Vancouver with the travel times of a proposed light rail system.
Our own research has shown that the current transit system adequately serves passenger demand across the CRC. Replacing it with light rail across a new bridge would be redundant at best, and wasteful.
Rubin’s research sharpens this point further.
Travel time between Downtown Vancouver and Downtown Portland, as follows:
Existing C-Tran Route 105 (scheduled):                  16 minutes
Locally Preferred Option (light rail, projected):         36 minutes
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) (projected):                      14 minutes
The Locally Preferred Alternative, of course, was light rail, at a cost shown as $865 million (this is the lowest out of a number of different methods of calculation and may be significantly understated).
Of course, one might ask, why would someone in Vancouver going to Portland take light rail, if it takes 20 minutes longer – wouldn't they just take the existing bus service?
Well, no problem, they have solved that – the existing bus line will no longer be operated after light rail begins service.
So CRC officials want to spend $1 billion on a light rail system that would double current transit travel times between Vancouver and Portland.
Just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside to know how very badly these slimeballs want to screw us.

When your congresswoman is a cowardly total moron.

We're cursed with an empty-suited idiot as our representative in congress.

She's a coward, refusing to meet with the great, unwashed masses.  Her staff's efforts to control access to her are inexcusable... and inexplicable.

The article in the local democratian, which includes quotes from hypocritical former cowardman Brian Baird (who talks like he hadn't become a coward and didn't compare those opposed to Obamacare as Brown Shirts and so forth) lays it all out.

It shows an absolutely gutless performance and dictatorial effort to keep people wise enough to disagree with Ridgefield Barbie out of her face.

Her communications director/campaign manager is a complete fool who should be fired as soon as possible.  His portrayal of his boss as a cowardly moron is not the thing that POSITIVE legends are made of.

In any event, this is yet another chapter in the increasingly thick book of Ridgefield Barbie, who continues to show every day in every way that she's unfit for any elective office, let alone one like Congress.

Instead of seeking out the voice of the people she does everything she can to mute that voice... and that idiot running her communications seems proud of that:
On Friday The Chronicle in Centralia received a phone call from Herrera Beutler staffer and Communications Director Casey Bowman informing the newspaper of the meeting. Bowman asked that a meeting announcement not be placed in the paper. However, he did invite the paper to cover the event.
The Chronicle refused his request and published an announcement in Saturday’s paper.
The reason for not publishing an advance notice of the meeting was the fear that people from outside the immediate area could come and “just yell” at the congresswoman “whatever’s on their minds,” Bowman said Friday.
“When word gets in the paper, you get a certain set of people,” Bowman said.
Bowman, who also handled her anointment to the congressional seat ordained by her former boss, Cathy McMorris Rogers, apparently has confused constituents with "a certain set of people."

Do you think if I, for example, were a congressman that I wouldn't be holding regular town halls, open to all, in large venues to get the opinions (which I might not agree with but would at least hear) of those I work for?

Wouldn't you?

And then to try and coerce the newspaper into covering the event while keepin3 it silent?

Clearly, not every newspaper is a leftist rag like the democratian, which has repeatedly done that very thing.

Also of note was Bowman's questionable account of how people were, in fact, notified of this "coffee:" 5600 people were notified by phone of the meeting.

And 24 showed up.

No.... not 2400.... but 24.

And how pathetic was that?

Both Herrera AND Bowman should be fired immediately.

Because, particularly for Herrera, this is a stellar example of the old saw: If you can't stand the heat... then get the hell out of the kitchen.

Cross posted on Jaime Herrera Watch.

Need more proof that The One is a clueless, political idiot?

Our economy and foreign policy are in a shambles.

Unemployment in this country has a surreal quality to it.  We rarely actually SEE it.... it's kinda like being at war: if it weren't for the occasional mention in the newspaper, we'd hardly notice it.

We have a clown for President, an empty suited ego-maniac who has solved precisely NONE of the issues confronting us while burying us in debt... vaporizing hundreds of millions of dollars and burying this country in more and more trillions of debt.

Today's proof of his political idiocy?

Are you fricking kidding me?

If the slow-motion, agonizing  trainwreck we've become is a result of his "right" choices... I'd hate to see where we'd be if he'd screwed up.
Obama said: "I guarantee it's going to be a close election because the economy is not where it wants to be and even though I believe all the choices we've made have been the right ones, we're still going through difficult circumstances. That means people who may be sympathetic to my point of view still kind of feel like, yeah, but it still hasn't gotten done yet. This is going to be a close election and a very important one for the American people. The thing I hope the most is that everyone is going to be paying close attention to the debate that takes place because it could determine not just what happens over the next four years, but what'll happen over the next 20 or 30 years."
