Fewer unions whine more and sacrifice less then public employee unions generally and teacher unions specifically.
Was it just two years ago that Vancouver teachers sniveled and whined and moaned like cut cats over a 1% pay cut?
Last night, one of the most "victimized" group of government employees that you can imagine, namely, teachers of the Vancouver School District, are whining, screaming and bitching like cut cats because the Superintendent, who had taken a 4.5% voluntary tax cut, asked the rank and file to take a ONE PERCENT pay cut.One percent. One percent and those involved in the teaching scam LOSE THEIR MINDS.
As poster children, they used Carrissa Brown, described thus:
Carissa Brown, a music teacher with 10 years under her belt, said she takes home $2,400 a month — hardly enough to cover mortgage, health insurance payments and some child support, she said. With the 1 percent pay cut, she said she'd be left with $150 a month for extras.Well, the Washington State Teacher's Data Base of 2007 (The latest I can get) indicates that Ms. Brown received $37,758 in salary and $13,931 in benefits for the 182 days she worked for us that year. Add in step increases and mandatory pay raises and there's no telling how much she's paid... but it's at least $52,000 in pay and benefits.
Reading the comments from the story, it's clear that teachers STILL don't get it.
Government employees should be taking, at a minimum, a 20% whack of their pay and their UNBELIEVABLE benefit/retirement package ACROSS THE BOARD.
We're in a RECESSION, for God's Sake, a recession that their hero, the Empty Suited moron, can't seem to get us out of. And these prima-donnas, who make an average salary/benefit package in Washington State of $79,814, see themselves as entitled to considerations for their 183 day per year part time job that the rest of us, who have to pay their horrifically overpaid salary, should not get.
One moron, who identified themselves as a teacher, left this comment under the story in question:
Lew I am a teacher and a member of a union and in the past several years I have watch my paycheck decrease, a 3.4% redution[sic]this year, along with 6 of my extended days, along with the VOTER APPROVED COLA. Please tell me again that my union has not been making cuts too.

I'm not Lew and he can certainly speak for himself, but I'll pick up his slack and tell "Really" that yes, his union has not been "making cuts too."
First and foremost any teacher who believes what this clown believes... well, I urge you to resign... immediately.
I don't want you in a classroom exposing your sickness to our children.
If you believe you're overworked, underpaid and put upon, then get the hell out, you gutless turds.
You haven't been cut NEARLY enough. And the scam the WEA ran to GET the COLA passed (You DO remember the lie they kept using that the COLA wouldn't require a tax increase, don't you?) has now blown up in their face... so if you've got a bitch to pitch, take it up with the WEA lackeys you work for.
In fact, PLEASE quit. ALL OF YOU.
Because here's the dirty little secret: there would be DOZENS of teachers applying for each vacancy if you slime would just quit. And ALL of them would work for a hell of a lot less than YOU do, and actually be THANKFUL THEY HAVE ANY JOB.
Idiots.
