So... are government authorities prepared for the possibility Japanese Nuclear Reactor fall out here locally?

.
I've frequently wondered: what would we, as a nation, do if we woke up one morning and one of our major cities was "missing?"

If nothing else, the military taught me to engage in white board planning, even for eventualities that aren't likely.

Now... is it LIKELY we'll wake up to discover that Iran has found a way to nuke one or more of our cities?

Probably not.

Is it POSSIBLE? It absolutely is.

The reason I mention this is, of course, the Japanese Nuclear Plants which seem to be going up like matchsticks.

We have a jet stream that comes from that neck of the woods and goes over our neck of the woods. And with that jet stream comes rain. And with that rain may come Chernobyl-style fall out via rain and snow.

Just wondering here. Has anyone put any thought into any of this?

Playing the white board wargame... do we have secure locations which would be unaffected by fall out?

Do we have stores of fuel, food, medicine, Geiger counters and other measuring devices?

Do we have radiation detectors deployed?

Are their any realistic contingency plans for this kind of thing if the worst happens and Japan ceases to exist as a country, which seems to be becoming an increasingly likely scenario?

What are our plans if the whole of Japan has to be evacuated?

A couple of weeks ago, such a scenario would have been absurd... ridiculous on it's face.

Now?

Not so much.
