It's been worth it.
The newspaper finally seems to be getting it. And now the fit is beginning to hit the shan.
Here's the money quote from the article:
This is the kind of apparent theft that those of us opposed to this rip off have been yelling about for years.
Lou Brancaccio · Top Commenter · University of Florida "It was noted that David Evans and Associates’ billing rate schedule allowed for each billable labor hour to be marked up by a 172.82% Overhead Rate and a 31.0% Fee (Profit). The total markup on each billable labor hour was negotiated to be a factor of 204.32% (for example, a state rate for a Bridge Engineer of $40 per hour would actually cost the CRC $121.73 per hour)."
There's no excuse for this kind of thing... whoever approved this... new about it... allowed it should be tried and sent to prison for allowing this horrific waste of money, the same kind of waste made famous in in Bell, California.
There should be both criminal investigation and sanctions against the conspirators.
And now.
So yeah, I write with fury. I am so incredibly angry at those who would screw us or allow others to screw us when it's THEIR JOB TO PROTECT US.
And that means you, Leavitt.
And you, Stuart.
And you, Boldt.
And you, Smith.
And you, Hansen.
This has all been happening on YOUR watch and with YOUR approval.
YOU are more at fault then Evans, who has no doubt concluded that you can't rape the willing.
But you can rape the taxpayers.
What are you going to say about "David Madore's hired gun" now, Mr. Smith?
First, it must be really nice to have a guaranteed profit, over and above your overheads, which is covered in the overhead rate. Second, in private industry, we review their rate to ensure it is appropriate, and then audit their invoices to make sure the hours are correct, and the applied costs are appropriate, in a very detailed fashion, sometimes getting down to the actual timecards and job sheets of individuals. To not have this same detail available on a public project is, in my opinion, completely unacceptable.

Kelly, thank you for all of many years of fighting the local stupidity. I'm letting you know through my own way that IT IS APPRECIATED. May be not many say it to you private or publicly!
