Congratulations to Assessor-Elect Peter Van Nortwick and County Clerk-Elect Scott Weber.

.
Congratulations to Peter Van Nortwick, who overcame a particularly slimy and scummy effort by Brancaccio to destroy him both personally and professionally; and Scott Weber, who took out someone who constantly violated state and campaign law by refusing to get her campaign signs into compliance... all to the hypocritical silence of the Democratian.

I expect things are going to be just the tiniest bit, well, "icy," at both the Assessor and County Clerk's office. I've got to wonder: will either office now do everything they can to sabotage the transfer of power?

Will the losers, who remain in charge until the new term starts, fail to meet their job descriptions? Will they try and screw either candidate by dicking around with their budgets, or by not preparing budgets at all? Will they promote incompetence within over the next two months to make life as hard as possible for these two?

I think both newly elected candidates should request complete and painstaking audits of their shops, along with complete system reviews for efficiency to make sure a giant crap pile doesn't wind up on their plates. Were I them, I would be reviewing the entirety of the personnel budget and I would request across the board cuts in pay and benefits.

Both should surround themselves with knowledgeable, trusted subordinates who have a clue and who can unwind the rotten core of both operations.

Welcome aboard, guys! Well done!

  1. I would like to think professionalism would outweigh personal feelings and partisanship, but, this is Vancouver.

I add my congratulations to both Peter and Scott, both of whom were able to get around the smear campaigns against them.

    Especially Peter.
