Besides me, I mean?
Ever since this idiocy of "legalizing" pot started, I have stated that bogus efforts at the state level notwithstanding, pot remains illegal.
In the Constitution (yeah, I know... it's an archaic document, but it still counts) there's this little number called the "Supremacy Clause."
It says:
It was illegal. It's STILL illegal.
And no state-passed initiative or bill changes that.
Don't believe me?
Look up AZ SB 1070.
That was the senate bill signed into law in Arizona that effectively empowered Arizona law enforcement to act as if they were federal officers on the matter of immigration and illegal aliens.
The legal aspect of this is that the federal government reserved to itself the enforcement of the laws in question.
Much like they reserve to itself the authority to declare the recreational growth, sale, possession or consumption of recreational pot to be illegal.
States such as ours didn't care. the result was the fraud known as I-502.
Lacking any critical thinking skills, many supported I-502 and many in positions of authority who should have known better merely mouthed the outrageous promises made by the pro-side supporting this rip off... like this beauty:
The fact that we've yet to achieve 10% of that figure "ANY year," let alone EVERY year... means the entire thing was a scam for the suckers of the voting public.
Yes, pot for recreational use is illegal. Nothing we've done as a state changed that.
And as I have stated REPEATEDLY, if the fed ever pulled the trigger on legality, there was and is nothing the state could do about it.
Oh, the clueless duo, Inslee, and Ferguson will make a lot of noise, but that's the extent of it.
This state has no more power to ignore federal law on pot than Arizona had to ignore federal law on illegals.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

What the various states, including ours, have done to game that system makes no difference.

In June 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on the case Arizona v. United States, upholding the provision requiring immigration status checks during law enforcement stops but striking down three other provisions as violations of the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution.[27]In essence, Arizona attempted to become their own immigration authority, since the Obama Administration was assaulting that state and many others by completely obliterating any effort to enforce many, if not most, of the laws governing illegal aliens in this country.
The legal aspect of this is that the federal government reserved to itself the enforcement of the laws in question.
