To illustrate the seriousness of this and the other issues I've raised concerning the malfeasance it appears she's committed vis the issue of her apparently fraudulent record keeping in her PDC's as outlined yesterday,
Rivers' complaints supported by PDC: Enforcement Hearing on December 8. Time for Rivers to resign.
...I'm reliably informed that Rivers has retained counsel.
This is going to be a very long putt. To be successful, Rivers will have to attempt the impossible: she is going to have to convince the PDC that she knew absolutely nothing about any of this. And the problem with that approach, the "it's not my fault" defense is that ultimately, the candidate running for the office under investigation bears ultimate responsibility for everything posted in their PDC's.
When they discover some sort of error has been made... and the reality is that Rivers knew her PDC's were wrong for about a year... they have a duty to correct the error if they can, and self-report to the PDC if they can't.
Rivers, who knew from February of last year that her campaign account was over-reporting to almost $200,000, did neither.
Any action she's taken was driven by my blog reporting her illegal activity. And her explanation is pure fantasy when it comes to being held responsible.
Let me make it clear: had she immediately reported this issue when it happened and sought PDC assistance to resolve it, I'd have nothing to write about. But having allowed this action to fester in her PDC reporting for roughly a year, it's fairly clear that she intentionally left that false number in place with an intent to defraud those who may have been considering a run against her.
It's a shame that it's come to this. But it's also a shame that the Ann Rivers I supported and defended for so long has seemingly disappeared, to be replaced with just another corrupt political hack.
Such, I'm told, is political life. But that doesn't mean I have to like it or put up with it.
