When campaigns heat up, so do the pro-bridge/light rail/tolling lies.

"Figures don't lie, but liars figure."

Look, we get that John Laird is an ignorant, self-serving, surgically implanted blinders for the democratian kind of guy, and that "journalism" is some arcane concept that he seems to have, maybe, heard about some time in his distant past.

We get that lies from the Columbian on the bridge/loot rail/toll scam are almost as repulsive as their taxpayer-paid ballpark flip.

But to, once again, use your column to lie, exaggerate and pontificate while leaving out the biggest fact of all, namely, that this entire project is a con to get morons like Laird to buy-in?

This "column," where no lie is safe, serves as a great example of the Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court's ruling, where-in the country knuckle draggers across the river had to be fooled into screwing us with this project... and that they arrived at the goal (which is to ram loot rail down our throats) and everything else, including Laird's Lies, are mere backfill to try and get support for it:

The Oregon Supreme Court has succeeded in doing what scores of public meetings, thousands of pages of reports, and endless public relations spin could not: Give us the original rationale behind the proposed $3.5 billion Columbia River Crossing.

The answer, according to the court: The massive Interstate 5 bridge and freeway project is a “political necessity” to persuade Clark County residents to accept something they previously didn’t want—a MAX light-rail line from Portland to Vancouver. Because it makes the kind of fawning hatred of those opposed to the CRC the rag keeps babbling about look like idiots.

Cleveland's bills are DOA.  The slimeball in the House from the 49th and his "me too" scam isn't going anywhere, either.

And this is why none of the leftists running offered any alternative to the idiocy of their CRC Scam.

The rag, naturally, engages in revisionist history to stoke the hate:  they write trash in this column such as

"With that in mind, Cleveland is proposing a "bistate megaproject work group" to facilitate communication between Washington and Oregon when it comes to transportation projects valued at $500 million or more."

As if Sen. Ann Rivers had not already formulated and started a bi-state bridge committee?

No mention of that is made by the moron who wrote this editorial, of course.

This kind of stupidity from Cleveland should be filed under "special."

Another of Cleveland's proposals would require state money to be taken from other transportation projects and be given to a megaproject if that project has received a federal Record of Decision but no financing from the Legislature. And a third would place the state on the hook for reimbursing funds spent on a megaproject if it fails to materialize.

What kind of hatred of the opposition to this stupidity drives this kind of "hang yourself" response?

Then the rag continues the lie:  "The need for a replacement Interstate 5 Bridge has not diminished."  If these scum had been accurate, it already would have collapsed into the river by now.

The rag, of course, still pines for loot rail.  They lie about it this way:

As The Columbian has advocated editorially since the demise of the Columbia River Crossing, the best solution at this point would be a bridge that does not include light rail but that is capable of adding light rail in the future.

The people have made it clear: we do not want light rail now or in the future.  If this bridge is to be built, there's no need or support for the fake "light rail ready" aspect these people are trying to cover it with:  Light rail killed the last effort because the scum shilling it, from Jaime Herrera down to Greg Kimsey, were moronic enough to ignore the will of the people of this county.

Precisely like that idiot Cleveland and that scumbag Brancaccio are trying to do now.

The rag's use of the term... I mean the lie.... "public input" even in the face of the exposed memo that showed the plan to ignore us... even in the face of not one, single, solitary change to the project or the plan or the financing was generated by any member of the so-called "public."

In the end: the fact remains that we do NOT need to replace the I-5 Bridge, that the entire waste of hundreds of millions was driven and continues to be driven by the obsession to ram loot rail down our throats.

The irony of leftist stupidity is this:

The harder they fight to wrap the CRC around our skulls, the more they lose.  Instead of looking around and pondering why the democrats continue to get their collective heads cave in at the polls around here... instead of thinking: "You know what?  Maybe we're too stupid and shortsighted on issues like this.  Maybe we actually should listen to the people."

After beating themselves bloody over issues like this, you'd think they... the downtown mafia... the Chamber of Horrors... Identity Vancouver... CRUDEC and the like... would have learned... instead of doubling down.

Cleveland's worthless, narcissistic grandstanding is for her owners, not for the people.  The people have spoken... repeatedly.  Liars like Cleveland and Moeller could care less.

As this has proven: stupid is as stupid does.
