VEEEERRRRRYYYY Republican: why isn't the GOP touting this idea?

I've always been very big on the idea that EVERYONE should pay SOMETHING... even if it's only a dollar.

This "free stuff" society will ultimately be our undoing.  That a DEMOCRAT mentions this?

There's a huge disconnect among the tens of millions who pay nothing but get a lot and those of us who pay too much for their privilege to do so.

When you've got no skin in the game, it's easy to become an entitlement society.  But when you do... even if the amount is tiny... it provides you with some level of ownership... of buy in... and, perhaps, where the money is getting wasted starts to matter.

So.  Why isn't the GOP pushing this?

Virginia Senate candidate Tim Kaine, a Democrat, said that he's open to having a "minimum tax level for everyone":

"I would be open to a proposal to have some minimum tax level for everyone," said Kaine today at a Senate debate between himself and his opponent, Republican George Allen.
