Speaking of lies to the American people: Why did they lie to us about the US flying air strikes in Libya?

Secretary of Defense Gates: "We will not be taking an active part in strike activities"

Except now, as it turns out, we are.  In fact, we never stopped.

So... why did Gates lie?

What's the point?

Is this just more of that democrat double-speak... as in, there's a difference between dropping bombs for anti-aircraft defense suppression and dropping bombs to take out Libyan armor?
