As the democratian continues in their one sided effort to shill for a bridge replacement we don't need and a loot rail system we neither need or want, we can expect them to continue to print moronic efforts like those of Philip Parker,"a retired journeyman electrician" who lives in Battle Ground and who happens to be the Chair of the Washington State Transportation Commission.
And that's just sad.
In this letter, rife with such inaccuracy as the variety favored by the local fishwrapper, this "retired journeyman electrician" (read: union hack) is, like the vast majority of the other unnecessary bridge cheerleaders, one of those who would slam us into billions of dollars of debt... while *HE* doesn't have to pay for any of it.
That's the commonality among the bridgers/loot railers: few, if any of them will have to pay the horrific amount of money ($1300 per year or more) to cross a bridge every day to go to work that does not need or require replacement; and all for a loot rail system that is the entire basis for replacing the bridge in the first place.
Contrary to what Parker claims... we do not need to replace the bridge. Nor do we need light rail.
But for union hacks, indebting the people of Clark County for unnecessary billions so he can get unions back to work is just par for his course.
"Tolling" is extortion, particularly for this project. What we need are, of course, 2 additional bridges. Parker's allegation that building this crap pile will impact freight mobility or congestion is a long disproven lie. Additional bridges east of the I-205 Bridge and West of the I-5 Bridge are the inarguable solution.
Building additional bridge capacity to reduce pressure on the I-5/I-205 bridges is an obvious response to the corridor saturation we face; replacing the I-5 bridge will do absolutely nothing Parker claims it will... except to pay union workers outrageous amounts of money for the largest "make work" project in the history of this planet.
God help us that a self-delusional hack runs this state's transportation commission; he is part of the reason why there are no solutions... just unnecessary extensions of our current transportation agonies.
