Tim Eyman has announced the following:
I'm looking for the democrats to do everything they can to find a way around this; expect something as wide-ranging as a Constitutional amendment of some sort to stop this kind of initiative.OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) -- Initiative activist Tim Eyman says he'll introduce another initiative in 2012 requiring a two-thirds supermajority for the Legislature to raise taxes.
Eyman's Initiative 1053 was overwhelming approved by voters in November. It requires the Legislature to get a two-thirds majority on tax-hike votes rather than the simple majority required for most legislation. Lawmakers also could send taxes to Washington voters for approval.
It took effect Dec. 2. However, lawmakers are allowed to change or suspend initiatives after two years. Eyman says that starting in 2012, he'll introduce a similar initiative ever two years to try to keep that from happening.
The next general election would be perfect for such a thing as a way to bring out their fellow fringe leftists. With typical GOP incompetence, adequately displayed in the last election, this is a situation just begging to happen.
Meanwhile, good job, Timmy.
