Tim "The Liar" Leavitt: screwing the taxpayer, one business at a time.

Oddly enough, while bubbling all over the giddiness of PeaceHealth wanting to relocate to Vancouver, though only God knows why, the Democratian failed to mention that The Liar had already slammed the door in PeaceHealth's collective face over his precious "Columbian Building."

Leavitt, best known for running one of the most underhanded, blatantly lying campaigns in the history of this region, wants the new Columbian Building SO bad, that he's turning down the short-term profit of some $3 million by refusing to sell the Taj Ma-cityhall for PeaceHealth's new headquarters down here locally.

It's bad enough that the city, suffering from horrific reductions in revenue bought a building they could not afford in the first place. But then, to compound THAT stupidity by not making $3 million that could have served to buttress police and fire loses as a short term bridge to some level of recovery shows just how clueless and shallow The Liar actually is.

Hopefully, PeaceHealth will wise up and take their football... and jobs... somewhere else. Vancouver doesn't deserve it, and they've already received a taste of the idiocy running the show in this neck of the woods.

Vancouver blocks PeaceHealth's bid to move into former Columbian building

VANCOUVER — In searching for a potential location for a new corporate headquarters, Bellevue-based hospital chain PeaceHealth made it clear to Vancouver officials their ideal site was 415 W. Sixth St.. a building formerly owned and occupied by The Columbian newspaper.

Just one problem — Vancouver had already purchased that piece of property to serve as a new City Hall.

PeaceHealth, a Catholic nonprofit that is in the process of merging with Southwest Washington Medical Center, sent a letter to outgoing City Manager Pat McDonnell dated Aug. 11, saying that it was considering "moving all executive offices from Bellevue ... if we can find appropriate space."

And though the city had owned the former Columbian building for less than two months, PeaceHealth President Alan Yordy told McDonnell that he wanted it.

On Aug. 16, PeaceHealth got an answer from the city, via then-Assistant City Manager Eric Holmes: No.

"Absolutely not," said Holmes, who is now Vancouver's city manager, this month in discussing PeaceHealth's interest. "We went through about a dozen-year process to identify what our needs are, that ultimately led to the acquisition of the building."

No official offers were made, but Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt said that a figure in the range of $21 million was mentioned.

The city bought the former Columbian building for $18.5 million in June from Bank of America after Downtown Vitality Partners forfeited it in a bankruptcy settlement earlier this year. Downtown Vitality Partners is owned by the Campbell family, which also publishes The Columbian, and had no financial stake in the deal between the city and the bank.
